However, when the Masterworks series was revived after a few years (they stopped at Volume 27 during the first run), they aspired to be more archival in nature and restored the original colour schemes (as well as spelling mistakes like 'pharoah') in new printings of the earlier volumes. Therefore all the recent Masterworks, Omnibus, and Epic collections have all reproduced the original colours, including Stan G's pastel renderings. (They were recoloured, obviously, but in accordance with the original schemes.) Incidentally, if you'd broken your post into 4 parts, you could have posted one a week, thus increasing your hits. That way, you'd still be doing a new post every month, but your readers wouldn't have to wait a month for something to read. 'Continued stories' are a good idea, trust me.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8419605150672201683.post-54287193719713058252017-08-24T09:28:47.959-07:002017-08-24T09:28:47.959-07:00Ah, but then you post almost every day, GR ... my ...Ah, but then you post almost every day, GR ... my offerings are more or less monthly. I just mentioned Strange Tales 116 and Avengers 16 as examples. That period of Marvel comics is full of pastel speech balloons, all coloured more or less randomly. Interestingly they didn't carry over those colouring schemes to the more recent collected Masterworks albums, which further indicates to me that Stan G's pastel bubbles were a sign of the times ...AirPiratePresshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13136561512898563240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8419605150672201683.post-4638250064765251362017-08-23T17:01:51.767-07:002017-08-23T17:01:51.767-07:00You certainly give value for money, Al - I'd h...You certainly give value for money, Al - I'd have made about 3 or 4 posts out of that. As for the coloured speech balloons in Strange Tales #116, I'd guess that it was easier for Stan Goldberg to render them yellow in that second panel than it was to colour the floor, as he'd then have had to brush around too many items (books, TV, etc) - and, with the floor left white, the panel definitely needed colour. As for the pink balloons in Avengers #16, perhaps that was to further emphasise (in addition to the jagged outline) that they were emanating from within the craft and therefore had a distinctive tone? Just a guess I'll admit, but I assume there was some reason for it, though it could have been random as you suggest. Always loved that cover to Avengers #27, ever since I first saw it on Fantastic #54. Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.com
