If not, then Jack obviously recycled an old idea (it was a doll in his previous version), and if so, then Stan's detractors would claim that the synopsis was written after-the-fact. However, I don't think that's automatically so, as (to reiterate) Jack could have suggested the idea during his 'story conference' with Stan. Without the missing page it's all speculation though. I agree that the details of the last few pages of the story are not detailed in the synopsis, Kid ... but I'm not sure that means any pages are missing from the original document. I've added a reproduction (the original is a bit fuzzy) of the synopsis above and I can see from the shape of the text block that it doesn't fill an entire side of a sheet of typing paper. It does make sense, though, that Stan would have written down the story for Jack, as it's apparent there's the change in tone of the FF tales from this point on, and so it seems plausible that Stan would want a written record (either before or after the story conference) of how he wanted the book to develop ...AirPiratePresshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13136561512898563240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8419605150672201683.post-50500258203509943702019-05-14T14:32:23.726-07:002019-05-14T14:32:23.726-07:00Regarding that FF synopsis for #8, apparently a pa...Regarding that FF synopsis for #8, apparently a page is missing, which is interesting for the following reason. The manner of the Puppet Master's apparent death mirrors a much earlier tale by Jack Kirby. This could simply be Jack adding to the plot as he usually did by recycling an old idea, but if it's mentioned in Stan's synopsis, it gives ammunition to those who say that the two surviving synopses were written after-the-fact, and the missing page detailing the Puppet Master's demise proves it. The theory being that Stan must have become belatedly aware that the fallen puppet idea had been done by Jack before, so therefore withheld or destroyed the page to conceal his deception. There is of course another explanation, which is that Jack mentioned the idea to Stan (without revealing that he'd used it before) during their discussion of the plot, and Stan then typed it up afterwards to send to Jack to remind him of what they'd agreed upon.

Time may yet tell, but I'm quite happy to give Stan the benefit of any doubt.

Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.com
