I agree that the 1988 series is not canon -- or, at least, it's post-Crisis canon and doesn't necessarily apply to the pre-Crisis universe. Especially since I've learned (and verified through three people who knew Bridwell personally) that the member revealed to be Mockingbird is not the same one that Bridwell intended. Bridwell inserted a clue to Mockingbird's identity in issue #1, and even though it's not exactly ironclad evidence, it seems clear that Bridwell put it there intentionally.Bob Buethehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04624148139233566430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8419605150672201683.post-37968774312366715682017-04-23T07:27:40.523-07:002017-04-23T07:27:40.523-07:00Thanks for your insights, TC ... according to epgu...Thanks for your insights, TC ... according to epguides.com, season 1 of M:I ran Sep 1966 to Apr 1967. The second season began in Sep 1967. I'd have thought plans for Secret Six would have been underway at DC before or around the start of Season 2. Secret Six 1 was on sale 1st Feb 1968 (according to GCD). Given those dates, it's very possible, we wouldn't have seen M:I in the UK until after the first issue of Secret Six came out. But, yes...AFAIK, there was never a Bomba TV series. But, yes, the old movies were shown on Saturday morning TV (as were the Tarzan and Jungle Jim movies) on a regular basis.

Here in the US, Mission:Impossible had been running for a few years before The Secret Six premiered, so the similarities were obvious. There was a lot of sincere flattery going on at the time; DC's Our Fighting Forces included a strip called Hunter's Hellcats as its lead feature starting in 1967 or '68. It was about a WWII commando-type unit composed of paroled ex-convicts. The #1 hit movie in 1967 was The Dirty Dozen. Probably not a coincidence.

Like you, I don't accept the 1988 version of The Secret Six as canon, since it wasn't written by Bridwell. Otherwise, back issues can be found quite cheaply on eBay, as well ... highly recommended, as they're a great read.AirPiratePresshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13136561512898563240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8419605150672201683.post-71811780630812467872017-04-16T06:43:44.412-07:002017-04-16T06:43:44.412-07:00I found all that interesting, Al, and it makes me ...I found all that interesting, Al, and it makes me want to read those issues. I don't think I ever saw this title at the time, apart from in ads in other DC Comics. It's always possible that I might've seen one included in a 'Double Double' comic, but if so I've forgotten. Bet you're kicking yourself over that missing page of art, eh? That would look good in a frame up on your wall. Liked #5's cover - if I'd seen that in the spinner-rack I'd have bought it for sure. Also liked the bikini page. Do you know if DC have ever published a collected edition? Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.com
